About Me

I have been a Registered Psychologist in Alberta since 1989. I graduated from the University of Western Ontario (now Western University) with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Following the completion of my Ph.D. research, I moved to Vancouver where I completed my internship and worked in a private practice setting. Since I moved to Calgary, I have worked in private, public and academic settings and am an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Calgary. I have worked in both hospitals and clinics that provide cognitive behavioural therapy and that train post-graduate psychology students and residents. I have developed training programs and served as the Director of Clinical Training for an accredited predoctoral residency program for clinical psychologists. In addition to my work in Alberta, I have presented lectures and training workshops across Canada as well as a number of other countries around the world. I have a broad range of experience working with individual clients with many different types of mental health problems, ranging from mild to severe. In addition to my work with cognitive behavioural therapy, I also provide comprehensive psychological assessments with Mandel and Associates. http://mandelassociates.com//about-us.htm#dobson

On a broader level, it is important to me to work to increase awareness of mental health problems and help to reduce the stigma that prevents some people from reaching out for help. I have volunteered with a number of different professional and community organizations. I have been on the Board of the Canadian Mental Health Association - Calgary Region and have served as its President. I have been the Chair of the Clinical Psychology Section for the Canadian Psychological Association. I am a Founding Member of the Canadian Association of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapies (CACBT) and have been on its Board in several different capacities. I am a Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT) and am a certified cognitive behavioural therapist with ACT and CACBT.
